About
Welcome to The Fantasy Football Stock Market, my name is Bryon Powell.
I started my Fantasy Football life 20 years ago in a work league and I haven’t looked back.
GROWING UP WITH FOOTBALL
Growing up I was a casual NFL fan, watching my favorite team the L.A. Raiders
whenever they were on the national TV broadcast. The height of my NFL fandom was
2001 watching the Oakland Raiders, led by Jon Gruden and Rich Gannon make it to the
AFC Divisional Playoffs against the New England Patriots. For those of you who
remember the game it was made famous by the “Tuck Rule” when Charles Woodson hit
Tom Brady, causing a fumble that was recovered by Greg Biekert. The play was
overturned, because it was determined that the ball came out because of an incomplete
pass and not a fumble. Then to add insult to injury Patriots Kicker Adam Vinatieri
kicked a 45-yard field gold in the driving snow to tie the game and send the contest to
overtime. Eventually the Patriots would go on to win the game and the Super Bowl that
year.
VERY FIRST LEAGUE
Although Tom Brady and the Patriots crushed my Super Bowl dreams that year, I
continued to watch the NFL. In 2003 I began my career as a State of New York
employee and my supervisor at the time was into Fantasy Football. He invited a group
of the guys at work to join a new fantasy football league he was creating. I had never
even heard of fantasy football at the time, but I figured why not. That was the beginning
of an epic journey into the NFL, and fantasy football. Now every game was fun to
watch, I had a vested interest in every game that was on TV!
OFF TO A ROUGH START
That year I had no idea what I was doing and began by looking at NFL stats and drafted
my team from yardage leaders from the previous year. Unfortunately for me I failed to
account for touchdowns in my team plan. I had no idea what was important when
drafting a team. I finished 2 nd to last that year, but I learned a valuable lesson about how
important it is to be prepared for the draft and the fantasy football season.
20 YEARS LATER
Now I am in 5 fantasy football leagues, 1 fantasy basketball and 1 fantasy baseball
league, keeping me busy all year long. Out of those leagues I am the Commissioner in
3 of the leagues. Two of the fantasy football leagues are dynasty leagues, keeping me
active year-round in the NFL action. Over the years I have won several championships,
and even more close finishes. My day to day consists of sports center in the morning
with my coffee, and NFL Today in the afternoon to keep me up to date with all the action
in the NFL.
FANTASY FOOTBALL STOCK MARKET
Now I am expanding my fantasy football journey to bring a new look at the game we all
love. Over the years I have looked for fantasy success by listening to Fantasy Football
Podcasts, Fantasy Football Magazines with varying degrees of success. I often found
myself over thinking all the chatter and projections. It was not until I started to base my
fantasy football choices on actual NFL news reports, did I start to enjoy regular fantasy
success. Here at the Fantasy Football Stock Market, I will focus on the news, trends
and statistics, not weekly projections and speculation. Hopefully you enjoy a different
perspective on the fantasy football experience!
