2025 TOP 10 FREE AGENT QUARTERBACKS FOR FANTASY FOOTBALL

The quarterback position is probably the most important position in fantasy football.  Now I know some fantasy football experts will tell you to wait on a quarterback and some will even tell you that you can stream a different quarterback from week to week.  I do not agree with that strategy; I think that no matter what format you play in fantasy football the quarterback is the position to invest in during the draft.  Before we get to the draft free agency may send some of these QBs on the move.  So, let’s see what quarterbacks will be free agents for 2025.

If you had told me a year ago that Sam Darnold would be the top free agent QB in 2025, I would have called you crazy.  Darnold has played in the NFL for seven seasons, and this was his best statistical year.  He finished the year as the QB9 with 378 fantasy points, while throwing for 4319 yards, 35 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown.  In any other situation you would say that he would be a lock to resign with whatever team he was playing for after a season like that.  Unfortunately for Darnold, the Vikings drafted J.J. McCarthy in the 2024 draft, and he was all set to be the team’s starting QB until and injury sidelined him for the season clearing the way for Darnold.  With so many teams in need of a quarterback Darnold is in a perfect situation to get paid!  As far as dynasty goes, there is zero chance he is available, and the chances of trading for him are unlikely.  When it comes to redraft leagues for 2025, depending on where he lands, he is a guy to keep in mind during your draft.

The next best options are coming out of Pittsburgh, Justin Fields and Russell Wilson both coming off successful seasons.  These two guys basically split the season for the Steelers, Wilson had better numbers throwing for 2482 yards, and Fields threw for 1106 yards.  In the first 6 games that Fields started, the team went 4-2 and looked good.  Then Wilson stepped in, and the team finished 10-7, and lost the last four games in the regular season.  The way the pair split time it’s hard to say who was more successful, but there will defiantly be a market for both these QBs once free agency starts.  You may be able to trade for either one of these players in a dynasty league, and in your redraft league they will be going in the later rounds and could be a good backup with high upside.

Then we have a trio of veteran quarterbacks in similar situations, Aaron Rodgers, Jameis Winston, and Joe Flacco.  The chances that these guys land a starting job at this point in their careers is slim.  But at the same time, I think that all three have value to any NFL team and have value for your dynasty teams.  These guys have all proven that they can still put up big numbers for fantasy.  Teams looking for a veteran backup will be lining up for these guys, but they should not be on the radar for your redraft leagues.

The last two players that I would like to take a look at are Mac Jones and Daniel Jones, both players are young QBs that are looking to bounce back in 2025.  Mac Jones stepped in to the starting job week 10 in Jacksonville for an injured Trevor Lawrence.  He got off to a slow start but finished strong with 1672 yards and 9 touchdowns.  Daniel Jones on the other hand started the season for the Giants and after a bumpy start got cut from the team and signed on with the Vikings to finish the season.  In the 10 games that Jones played for the Giants he finished with 2070 yards and 10 touchdowns.  I think if these guys get a second chance, in the right situation they can have a bounce back year.  In your dynasty league you may be able to trade for these guys and stash them for the future.  When the time comes for your redraft league, we will have a better idea on the outlook for both players.
